THE JUNOCITY FIELD NOTES
An itemized invoice, worked through.
An itemized invoice separates the work into lines the client can check. Each line names the work, gives a quantity and rate, and shows how it contributes to the total.
Create an invoiceStart with descriptions that match the agreement
“Design work” tells a client very little. “Discovery workshop — agreed 2.5 hours” makes the activity and billing basis clear. For a fixed-price deliverable, describe the milestone and use a quantity of 1 rather than inventing hours.
Split different rates or billing methods into separate lines. Include a period, deliverable or project reference where it helps the client recognize the charge. Keep sensitive working notes and unrelated client information out of item descriptions.
A complete three-line example
In this fictional project, Example Studio bills Demo Works in USD. The parties have agreed an hourly workshop, a fixed-price presentation, and hourly revisions. They also agreed a 10% invoice-level discount.
| Description | Qty | Rate | Amount |
|---|---|---|---|
| Discovery workshop — hours | 2.5 | 80.00 | 200.00 |
| Presentation — fixed milestone | 1 | 350.00 | 350.00 |
| Agreed revisions — hours | 0.75 | 80.00 | 60.00 |
| Subtotal | 610.00 | ||
| Discount — 10% | −61.00 | ||
| Total, with no tax entered | 549.00 | ||
The calculation is 200.00 + 350.00 + 60.00 = 610.00. Ten percent of 610.00 is 61.00, so the remaining amount is USD 549.00. Tax is deliberately omitted from this arithmetic example; that is not a statement that a real transaction would be exempt.
Convert minutes into decimal hours
For hourly billing, divide minutes by 60 before entering the quantity. Two hours and 30 minutes is 2 + 30 ÷ 60 = 2.5 hours. Forty-five minutes is 45 ÷ 60 = 0.75 hours.
Do not type 2.30 to mean 2 hours 30 minutes. It means 2.3 hours, which is 2 hours 18 minutes. At USD 80.00 per hour, that would produce USD 184.00 instead of USD 200.00. Use the time and any rounding increments you actually agreed with the client.
Enter the example in Junocity
- Open the invoice generator, add the fictional parties, choose your invoice reference and dates, and keep the currency set to USD.
- Under The work, enter each description, quantity and unit rate from the table. Use Add item for the second and third lines.
- Set Discount type to Percentage and enter
10. Leave the optional tax field blank for this example. - Check that the preview shows USD 610.00 subtotal, USD 61.00 discount and USD 549.00 total.
- Review the document, select A4 or US Letter, complete the terms checkbox, and download the PDF. Open the downloaded file before sending anything.
These are manual practice entries, not a button that loads or stores a template. Junocity keeps entries in the current page's memory; save the document you need before leaving or resetting the editor.
Why rounding each line matters
Junocity multiplies quantity by unit rate, then rounds each line half-up to the selected currency's precision. It sums those rounded lines, rounds and subtracts the invoice discount, and then calculates and rounds any optional tax on the discounted subtotal.
A fictional rounding check
Suppose two separate USD lines each contain 3 units at a rate of 0.335. Each multiplication produces 1.005, which rounds to 1.01. Junocity adds the two rounded lines to give USD 2.02.
Adding both unrounded results first would give 2.010, displayed as 2.01. That is a different calculation convention. Compare the rounded line amounts when checking Junocity's subtotal.
USD uses two decimal places in the editor. Other presets and custom currencies may use a different precision. Changing currency does not perform an exchange conversion. Junocity's calculation convention does not determine which tax or rounding rules apply to your business.
A final item-by-item check
- Each description identifies agreed work, goods or a milestone.
- The quantity represents the intended unit: hours, pieces or one fixed-price deliverable.
- The unit rate and currency match the agreement.
- The discount is intentional, and any tax treatment has been checked separately.
- The downloaded PDF contains every line and agrees with the preview total.
If your invoice needs mixed tax treatments, credit lines, or a payment-balance ledger, the editor's single invoice-level calculation may not represent it. Review the product limits before using it for a more complex transaction.
