How amounts are calculated
Each quantity × rate line is rounded half-up to the currency precision. Rounded lines are added, the invoice discount is rounded and deducted, then the optional tax is calculated on that discounted subtotal and rounded. This convention is not a promise of jurisdiction-specific tax compliance. Unit rates may have up to 6 decimal places. Maximum 50 items, quantity 1,000,000, individual rate and subtotal 1,000,000,000. Tax and percentage discount must be between 0 and 100.

Make the deliverable easy to recognize
“Design work” leaves the client guessing. A description such as “Homepage design — 6 agreed hours” connects the invoice to a specific piece of work. Use the project reference for the engagement name, then give each separately billed deliverable its own line.

Download this fictional example (PDF, A4)This fictional invoice combines six design hours at USD 75 with a separate USD 180 copywriting milestone: USD 450 + USD 180 = USD 630. The PDF is a completed reference, not an editable blank template. Use the editor above for your own invoice.
Hourly, fixed-fee, and milestone invoices
- Hourly work: put the agreed hours in Quantity and the hourly rate in Rate. For example, 2.5 hours at USD 80 produces a USD 200 line. Include the service period in the description or notes.
- A fixed fee: use quantity 1 and enter the agreed fee as the rate. Describe the deliverable rather than inventing hours to fit the amount.
- A project milestone: name the stage being billed, such as “Website copy — final milestone.” Enter the amount for that stage, rather than repeating the whole project fee.
The example amounts illustrate the format; they are not recommended prices. If you are still planning the work, use the freelance rate calculator or project quote calculator before agreeing the fee.
Before you send your freelance invoice
Check the client name, deliverables, currency, and agreed due date. Use your own invoice number sequence; Junocity does not remember earlier numbers. Download the PDF before closing the tab, then use the invoice email guide to prepare your message.
This editor creates the document; it does not track deposits, prior payments, or recurring invoices. For a purchase order or statement-of-work reference, see the consulting invoice example. For another currency, see international invoicing.
